Wizards of the Coast announced them on 5 October 2026 in “Updating Our Boosters in 2027”, and they start with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, which releases on 5 February 2027. About 1 in every 1,000 Booster Packs and 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters will be a God Pack. They look exactly like normal packs; you find out when you open one.

The same announcement changes what is in every other pack. Play Boosters are renamed Booster Packs. Booster Packs lose the guaranteed foil and all foil commons and uncommons. Collector Boosters lose two foil commons and one foil uncommon, three cards fewer per pack, with nothing added in their place. Wizards says prices stay the same.

This guide covers exactly what is in each kind of God Pack, the real odds per box, and what a God Pack would be worth. We priced one with live market data from 2026’s three in-universe sets (Reality Fracture, Secrets of Strixhaven and Lorwyn Eclipsed). The short answer: a God Pack is a nice pull, not a jackpot. In a typical set it is worth about $20 to $40 in cards, and over a year of Collector Boosters the three missing foils take away more value than the God Packs add.

What is a God Pack in MTG?

A God Pack is a booster pack that has rare and mythic rare cards in almost every slot. It is not a separate product and there is no special wrapper. God Packs are mixed in with ordinary packs at the factory, so any Booster Pack or Collector Booster from a 2027 in-universe set might be one.

The name comes from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, where collectors have used “god pack” for years to describe a pack in which every card is a top-rarity pull. Magic has had rare chase cards before, such as Zendikar Expeditions and Kaladesh Inventions, but those were single cards in an otherwise normal pack. A God Pack replaces the whole pack.

Each God Pack has a God Pack celebration card in it. Scryfall already lists it in the Nauctis token set (TNAU #10). It is a foil card with the words “YOU DID IT!” across the front and the line “Get out the toploaders, you opened a God Pack.” It has no rules text and is not a game card. It exists to tell you what you just opened, which matters because a stack of rares in a pack could otherwise look like a printing mistake.

The God Pack celebration card from Nauctis: The Sunken Realm (TNAU #10). Both come from Wizards’ announcement and the matching post for Wizards Play Network stores.

Booster Pack God Pack (1 in 1,000)

Slot

Cards

Finish

Rare or mythic rare, normal frame

10

Non-foil

Booster Fun rare or mythic rare

2

Non-foil

Booster Fun rare or mythic rare

2

Traditional foil

God Pack celebration card

1

Foil

Total

14 rares and mythics + 1 celebration card

Collector Booster God Pack (1 in 300)

Slot

Cards

Finish

Booster Fun rare or mythic rare

5

Foil

Rare or mythic rare, normal frame

3

Foil

Booster Fun rare or mythic rare

3

Non-foil

Land

1

Foil

God Pack celebration card

1

Foil

Total

11 rares and mythics + 1 foil land + 1 celebration card

“Booster Fun” is Wizards’ name for alternate card treatments: borderless art, showcase frames, extended art and similar. “Normal frame” means the card as it looks in the main set. In a normal Collector Booster there is one “foil fancy” slot that can hold the set’s headline treatment. In a Collector God Pack that slot becomes five cards, so in theory it could hold several of the set’s best treatments at once. Wizards did not say whether serialized or special-foil cards can appear in God Packs.

God Pack odds: what 1 in 1,000 means per box

“1 in 1,000” is an average rate, not a promise. You do not get one God Pack for every 1,000 packs you open; each pack has about a 0.1% chance. Play Booster boxes have 30 packs and Collector Booster boxes have 12 (the current box sizes, as sold for Reality Fracture). Here is the chance of opening at least one God Pack:

Booster Packs opened

Chance of at least one God Pack

Collector Boosters opened

Chance of at least one God Pack

1 pack

0.1%

1 pack

0.33%

1 box (30)

3.0%

1 box (12)

3.9%

6 boxes (180)

16.5%

4 boxes (48)

14.8%

12 boxes (360)

30.2%

8 boxes (96)

27.4%

693 packs (about 23 boxes)

50%

208 packs (about 17 boxes)

50%

1,000 packs (about 33 boxes)

63.2%

300 packs (25 boxes)

63.3%

3,000 packs (100 boxes)

95.0%

900 packs (75 boxes)

95.1%

Two things stand out. First, even after opening 1,000 Booster Packs, more than a third of people (36.8%) will not have found a God Pack. Second, one Collector Booster box gives a slightly better chance (3.9%) than one Play Booster box (3.0%), because 12 packs at 1 in 300 beats 30 packs at 1 in 1,000. For a single person opening a box or two at a prerelease, the realistic chance is a few percent.

The Theorist, Jace Beleren (borderless, Reality Fracture #363) is the set’s most valuable pack card at $75.41 non-foil and $105.80 foil. The normal-frame slots use the main set; the Booster Fun slots use the set’s borderless, showcase and extended-art prints. Each mythic print appears half as often as each rare print, which is how standard booster collation works. Foil slots use traditional foil prints only; special foils (Reality Fracture’s fracture and facet foils) and Japan Showcase cards are left out, so the Reality Fracture numbers would be higher if those can appear. Serialized cards and bundle or Buy-a-Box promos are excluded because they are not in packs.

Set (2026)

Booster God Pack: median

Booster God Pack: average

Range (middle 80%)

Collector God Pack: median

Collector God Pack: average

Reality Fracture (Oct)

$38.56

$45.49

$20.23 to $81.67

$46.22

$53.34

Lorwyn Eclipsed (Jan)

$32.88

$36.24

$14.12 to $62.14

$37.13

$41.81

Secrets of Strixhaven (Apr)

$21.40

$22.83

$12.37 to $35.23

$23.20

$25.01

Why so low for a pack full of rares? A Reality Fracture God Pack that hits the borderless Jace is worth over $100 on that card alone. The median God Pack does not hit anything like that.

Put another way: spread across every pack, the God Pack adds about 2 to 5 cents of expected value to each Booster Pack ($0.023 for Secrets of Strixhaven, $0.036 for Lorwyn Eclipsed, $0.045 for Reality Fracture). Wizards’ own announcement and the store post do not give those numbers, so we have left them out. For how the current pack slots work, see our guide to understanding booster packs.

Collector Boosters: what you lose against what you gain

This is the part the announcement does not add up for you. Each 2027 Collector Booster loses two foil commons and one foil uncommon and gains a 1-in-300 chance at a God Pack. Wizards calls the removed cards “often considered filler”, and it is right that they are cheap. But cheap is not zero. Here is the average market value of what goes and what comes, by set:

Set

Average foil common

Average foil uncommon

Value removed per pack (2 C + 1 U)

God Pack value added per pack (average / 300)

Net per Collector Booster

Reality Fracture

$0.27

$0.48

$1.02

$0.18

−$0.84

Lorwyn Eclipsed

$0.23

$0.36

$0.83

$0.14

−$0.69

Secrets of Strixhaven

$0.23

$0.32

$0.77

$0.08

−$0.69

On these numbers, an average 2027 Collector Booster holds roughly 70 to 85 cents less card value than the same pack would have under 2026 rules, at the same price ($26.99 per pack for Reality Fracture, per the product announcement). That is under 4% of the pack price, and these are average listing prices: a foil common worth 25 cents is hard to actually sell. If you open Collector Boosters for the chase cards, little changes. If you open them to build foil Commander decks, you get fewer foil commons and uncommons per pack.

Two limits on this estimate. The God Pack side uses traditional foils only, so if special foils can land in the five-card foil Booster Fun slot, a Reality Fracture Collector God Pack is worth more than $53. And Nauctis prices will be different from all three sets. The trade only breaks even if a Collector God Pack averages about $230 to $300 in cards (the removed value times 300), several times what any of our three sets produce.

Before you buy sealed product, our guides to the Collector Booster box and booster boxes in general go through what you get for the money.

What happens if you open a God Pack at a prerelease or draft?

Wizards published guidance for stores in its WPN post. In short:

Event type

What should happen

Any event

Stop and call a judge or the tournament organizer straight away. The store replaces it, free, with an unopened Booster Pack from the same set.

Regional Championships and Pro Tour (product supplied by Wizards)

Removal and replacement is required.

Casual events, such as a Prerelease run with Player List Only pairings

The store may let you keep the God Pack in your pool. Wizards still generally recommends removal and replacement.

Either way you keep the cards. The reason for swapping the pack out is fairness: a sealed pool with 14 extra rares is far stronger than anyone else’s at the table. Wizards also suggests the store celebrate the pull with everyone there. If you are going to the Nauctis prerelease, our MTG prerelease guide covers the rest of the day.

Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, the first set with God Packs

Nauctis is the first Magic set of 2027 and the first one with God Packs. Here is what is confirmed as of 16 October 2026:

Release date: 5 February 2027. Scryfall lists the set as NAU with that date.

Prerelease: reported for the weekend of 29 January 2027, the Friday before release. We will update this page when card prices exist and a real Nauctis God Pack can be priced. Until then, the Reality Fracture numbers above are the closest guide. For the other set coming this year, see our Mystery Booster Commander guide; it is not affected by these changes.

Are God Packs on MTG Arena or Magic Online?

Wizards has not said. The announcement covers paper Booster Packs and Collector Boosters only, and no digital version has been announced. Arena packs already work differently from paper packs (wildcards, duplicate protection), so do not assume the same rules will carry over.

Should God Packs change how you buy Magic?

For most players, no. The odds are a few percent per box and the typical God Pack is worth $20 to $40 in cards. Buying boxes to chase God Packs means paying for the whole box on the odds of a pull worth less than a box. If you want specific cards, buying the singles is still far cheaper than opening packs for them, and the God Pack does not change that math.

What does change: Booster Packs from Nauctis on will sometimes have no foil, and any foil you do get will be a rare or mythic. Collector Boosters will be three cards lighter. If you build Commander decks out of what you open, check what the set actually offers before buying sealed, and use the public deck gallery to see which new cards are showing up in real lists.

FAQ

When do God Packs start in MTG?

With Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, released 5 February 2027 (prerelease reported for 29 January). Every in-universe set after that will have them; Universes Beyond sets are expected in 2028.

What are the odds of a God Pack?

About 1 in 1,000 Booster Packs and 1 in 300 Collector Boosters. That is a 3.0% chance per 30-pack Booster box and a 3.9% chance per 12-pack Collector Booster box.

How many rares are in a God Pack?

A Booster Pack God Pack has 14 rares or mythics (10 normal frame, 4 Booster Fun) plus the celebration card. A Collector Booster God Pack has 11 rares or mythics, a foil land and the celebration card.

How much is a God Pack worth?

Using 2026 sets at today’s prices, the median Booster God Pack is worth about $21 to $39 and the median Collector God Pack about $23 to $46, depending on the set. The best ones can pass $100 if they hit the set’s top mythic.

Can you tell if a pack is a God Pack before opening it?

No. Wizards says God Packs look exactly like normal packs and are mixed in with them.

Are Play Boosters going away?

Only the name. From Nauctis on, Play Boosters are called Booster Packs. You can still draft and play Sealed with them.

Do Booster Packs still have foils?

Sometimes. The guaranteed foil is gone. When a Booster Pack does have a foil, it will be a rare or mythic rare, and Wizards says foil rares and mythics will show up more often than before.

Are prices going up because of God Packs?

Wizards says Booster Pack and Collector Booster prices will not change.

Is the God Pack celebration card playable?

No. It has no rules text and is not a Magic game card. It marks the pack as a God Pack.

Do God Packs count in a Sealed or draft event?

Usually not. Wizards recommends the store swap the God Pack for a normal Booster Pack and let you keep it. At Regional Championships and the Pro Tour the swap is required.

MTG God Packs start with Nauctis in February 2027: 1 in 1,000 Booster Packs, 1 in 300 Collector Boosters.
